SOFT SOLITUDE

2024

As a florist and the daughter of a family in the flower industry, Parita discovered that the majority of the flowers she deals
with are mass-produced and often include artificial fragrances.

On the other hand, when she travelled out of the city to the shore and found the chalk cliff flowers with amazing landscapes, she was captivated by the beauty and experienced a deep connection to nature. At the borderline, the line between a continent and the ocean, emerged her curiosity about her old and new selves, the overwhelmed feelings of losing and becoming, of letting go, and of grasping a new anchor. She wondered how these vulnerable little flowers could survive here in this faraway area, rising themselves from a gigantic, tough stone. This discovery has become the core of her later research on her ceramic collection.

Therefore, through Parita ceramic works, she would like to focus on the concept of ‘duality’ (i.e., the expression between fragility and toughness). Soft Solitude’s message is not about its final form but about the process of making with clay and glaze. Improvising and playing around with her hands-on methodology is the core.
